Rosie, we will miss you.

We are saddened to share with you that we have lost one of our favorite people, Rosie, who many of you know as the lady who dressed your fish at the boat dock. Last year, Rosie was diagnosed with cancer, and though she fought hard through treatment, she succumbed to the illness this week. We know so many of you considered her a friend and spent dozens of afternoons talking with her as she performed the job she loved. She missed getting to spend that time with you last fall and this spring; you were a special part of her life. The dock will not be the same without her, and we will never find a true replacement. We will miss her dearly.

If you would like to honor her memory, Steve McCadams, the well-known Kentucky Lake fishing guide and old friend of Rosie’s, has set up a memorial for her at his June 9th Casting for a Cure Kid’s Fishing Rodeo. A contribution will be donated to the American Cancer Society in Rosie’s name; donations can be sent to Steve McCadams Casting for a Cure Rodeo, 655 Anderson Drive, Paris, TN 38242.

If you would like to share a memory of Rosie, feel free to leave a comment on our Facebook page.

Opening Weekend 2012

March 19th, 2012 by brblog No comments »

Buchanan Boat Dock opened this past weekend to welcome the warm weather and eager fishermen. The fishing has been incredible, and it’s not even spring just yet! Two lucky guys, Dave Young and Greg Welton, fished with guide Don Roy Winstead on Saturday and caught the 2.5 and 2.75 lbs crappie pictured below.

If you’re ready for an early lake trip this season, the dock is already stocked with bait, snacks and drinks, ethanol-free gas, and early morning coffee. To book some of the most experienced guides on Kentucky Lake, call our main office at (731) 642-2828. Take advantage of the great weather and come see us!

Old Photos Preview

One quality that sets Buchanan Resort apart is its rich family history. When you visit Buchanan Resort today, you are likely to run into members of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations of the family. John Buchanan started the resort in the 1940s to share his sense of hospitality and love of Kentucky Lake. In the coming months, we hope to show you how his vision started, grew, and became what it is today. Here are just a couple of the old photos we’ve unearthed.

Founder John Buchanan in one of the first fishing boats he rented. This is how it all started in the '40s.

Little John after catching some bream (early '70s).

As you can see, fishing really was the backbone of the early years. Bream, crappie, catfish, bass–Kentucky Lake was full of fun possibilities then as it is now. Stay tuned for more old pictures and more interesting historical tidbits.

Our 1st place winner was Deborah Vaughn with her cart, “Proud to be an American.”

The 2nd place award went to Lyndsi Keel and Tim Hughes for “Easy Come Easy Go.”

The 3rd place winners were Dwayne and Kay French with “Lost in the ’50s.”

In addition to our Top 3, we also had to share these photos of cute kids!

Look! It’s the real-life Buchanan Boy mascot!
