Old Photos Preview

One quality that sets Buchanan Resort apart is its rich family history. When you visit Buchanan Resort today, you are likely to run into members of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations of the family. John Buchanan started the resort in the 1940s to share his sense of hospitality and love of Kentucky Lake. In the coming months, we hope to show you how his vision started, grew, and became what it is today. Here are just a couple of the old photos we’ve unearthed.

Founder John Buchanan in one of the first fishing boats he rented. This is how it all started in the '40s.

As you can see, fishing really was the backbone of the early years. Bream, crappie, catfish, bass–Kentucky Lake was full of fun possibilities then as it is now. Stay tuned for more old pictures and more interesting historical tidbits.

Crappie Fishing & Pool Update

June 9th, 2011 by brblog No comments »

First, thank you all for making Memorial Day a big weekend at Buchanan Resort and Kentucky Lake. It was great to see so many familiar and new faces enjoying the start of summer. Burgers @ Buchanan was a big hit, and we’re hoping to do it again later in the season.

We have two pieces of good news: the crappie are biting and the new pool is open to Resort guests.

Look at that mess of fish! Lately, the fish cleaning table at the dock has been packed with crappie. If you’ve been waiting all spring for some decent crappie fishing, now is the time to head down to Kentucky Lake and enjoy some time on the water.

Bob and Janice Becker from Mt. Juliet, TN caught about 65 crappie fishing with guide Steve McAdams yesterday!

In other news, the completely renovated pool at Buchanan Resort is now open to our guests! The landscaping should be finished up this week, so look for pictures of the completed project in the next few days, as well as information on the ways to gain access to the pool and all the other amenities at Buchanan Resort. For more information, call the main office at (731) 642-2828.

New Swimming Pool: Almost Finished

May 20th, 2011 by brblog No comments »

At Buchanan Resort, we always desire to give our customers what they want. When you spend your hard-earned money on a Kentucky Lake vacation, you want updated, clean facilities that make you feel comfortable, relaxed, and happy. That’s why we undertook the major project of completely replacing our swimming pool. This isn’t just an update; it’s a complete renovation.

While the unruly spring weather has presented some delays, crews are working long hours to make sure the pool is ready for the summer season. It is going to be a beautiful, relaxing place for our guests to spend a sunny day, and with newly built walkways, it is more convenient to the back porch of the Oak Tree Grille than ever. Within easy walking distance of all our cabins, we think it will be a guest favorite.

This week, the concrete surrounding the pool was poured. It will be ready for guests soon, and we look forward to seeing you!

Fishing Update: Bream are Biting

May 16th, 2011 by brblog No comments »

Crazy spring weather and high water have frustrated a lot of fishermen this spring. If you haven’t been catching many, don’t worry–you’re not alone! There is some good news, though. Lately, fishermen have been bringing in boats full of bream. They may not be the biggest fish in Kentucky Lake, but they make for a fun, active day of fishing. Here are some pictures of loads of bream brought into Buchanan Resort over the past few days:

If you’re only interested in the big fish, you can track down some bass in the falling waters. Try fishing around the shoreline as the waters fall for the best chances. As the water levels change rapidly, it’s a game of keeping up with moving fish.

Whether it’s a good fishing day or not, being on Kentucky Lake is always a good way to spend the day. Remember to find us on Facebook where we post all the latest fishing and lake pictures, too!

Receding Flood Waters

May 16th, 2011 by brblog No comments »

For the past two weeks, flood waters have swept swiftly through the South. The high water along the Tennessee River and Kentucky Lake has been stunning and historical, but, thankfully, there has been little damage. Buchanan Resort’s marina was able to remain open throughout the flooding thanks to creativity and hard work creating heightened and lengthened walkways and a boat “trolley.” Over the weekend, things returned mostly to normal at Kentucky Lake. No wading water or pulling yourself across in the trolley boat! TVA predictions say the lake level will continue to fall about one foot a day, so hopefully we will back to summer pool within the next week. These pictures show the height of the flooding, as well as the more recent drop in water levels.

The pavilion, almost completely submerged, during the height of the flooding.

The pavilion on May 14th.

The Boat Trolley, necessary when the ramp was submerged by several feet of water.

The walkway--back to normal--as the waters recede.

As you can see, things are looking a little more familiar around here. Come see us for a day of fishing, some weekend camping, or just a day on the lake!
